Styling the site

Colours, buttons and banner images — the settings that make the site look like your brand.

Last updated September 2, 2026

The style settings carry the brand across the whole site, so a new page looks right without anybody styling it.

SettingAffects
Background and button coloursThe whole site. A colour preview shows what you are choosing.
Button stylesHow every call to action looks.
Banner imagesThe imagery at the top of pages.

Getting colours right

  • Use your actual brand values, not something close from memory.
  • Check the contrast. A button in a pale brand colour with white text is unreadable in sunlight, which is where phones are used.
  • One accent. A site where four things compete for attention has no call to action.

Banner images

Use your own photography where you possibly can. Stock imagery is recognisable, and a real photograph of your work outperforms it — particularly for a local business, where the visitor is trying to work out whether you are real.

CHANGES APPLY EVERYWHERE, IMMEDIATELY
Style settings are site-wide and live. Make them when you can look at a few pages afterwards, not at the end of the day.
