Menu item attributes

Dietary and other tags shown against items — Vegetarian, Gluten Free, Spicy — each with an icon.

Last updated September 2, 2026

Attributes are the small badges next to a dish that answer the questions customers ask before they read the description: is it vegetarian, is it gluten free, is it hot. You define the set once, then tick the ones that apply on each menu item.

Creating attributes

  1. Go to Food → Menu Item Attributes and click Create Attribute.
  2. Enter the Attribute Name customers will see — "Vegetarian", "Gluten Free".
  3. Pick an Icon. The icon is what shows on compact menu layouts, so choose one that reads without the word.
  4. Save, then tick the attribute on each menu item it applies to, under Attributes on the item.

Attributes are organisation-wide: one list, used by every item and shown on every menu and portal. Deleting an attribute removes it from every item that carried it, permanently.

How many is enough
Keep the list short. Six attributes a customer recognises at a glance beat twenty they have to decode — and an item wearing eight badges tells them nothing.
