Running a Competition
The entrant confirmation email
What every entrant receives, and the merge tags you can use to personalise it.
Last updated September 2, 2026
Everybody who enters gets an email about ten seconds later. Its subject, heading, message and banner come from the Emails tab — or from the template where you have left them blank.
Write the subject
With no subject set anywhere, the email goes out as Thank you for your entry. That works, but it is a wasted opportunity — this is the one message you know an entrant will open.
Merge tags
| Tag | Becomes |
|---|---|
| {{person.first_name}} | The entrant's first name |
| {{person.last_name}} | Their surname |
| {{person.email}} | Their email address |
| {{person.mobile}} | Their mobile number |
| {{tribe.name}} | The tribe they entered at |
| {{tribe.main_telephone}} | That tribe's phone number |
| {{entry.Item Name}} | Their answer to one of your entry fields |
For an entry field, use the Item Name exactly as you typed it — a field called Favourite Product is {{entry.Favourite Product}}.
Use the tribe tags
The logo
The email uses your Email Banner Image if you set one, then the tribe's logo, then the organisation's. You do not have to set anything for it to look right, but a banner made for the competition looks better than a fallback.
It is not a marketing email
This confirmation goes to everybody who enters, regardless of marketing consent, because it is a transactional response to something they did. Keep it to confirming the entry and telling them what happens next. Actual marketing to entrants belongs in a campaign or an automation, where consent and unsubscribes are handled.
