Linking a contact to a company

Attaching a contact to the business they work for, creating that business from the contact, and what linking unlocks.

Last updated September 2, 2026

A contact on their own is a name. Linked to a company, they become part of an account — with everyone else who works there, the deals in play, and the whole history in one place.

Linking an existing company

Open the contact and set the company on the Company Details card. Search by name — the list covers the companies in this tribe.

Creating the company from the contact

When the business is not in the CRM yet, Create company on the contact builds it from what you already have and links the two in one step. Confirm the company name it suggests before you save — it is taken from the contact and is not always what the business calls itself.

What linking gives you

  • Every colleague at that business, on one page.
  • Account-level history: the company's communications card rolls up everyone's.
  • Sales and opportunities against the account rather than one person.
  • A record that survives your contact leaving their job.
ONE COMPANY, NOT ONE PER CONTACT
Creating the company from three different contacts at the same business gives you three companies. Search first. If it has already happened, merge them rather than picking a favourite — merging keeps the history from all of them.
