Controlling what a tribe can change

The three settings that decide whether a tribe can edit its own details, and how they combine.

Most networks want tribes maintaining their own phone number and opening hours, while head office keeps control of the name, the branding and the territory. Three separate settings decide where that line falls, and all three have to agree.

3. Per tribe	That tribe's admin settings	Switches for details, address, team members, posts and administrators.

A field is editable by a tribe user only when all three allow it. That is why turning on one switch sometimes appears to do nothing.

The organisation-wide setting

ANYTHING OTHER THAN FULL BEHAVES THE SAME AS NONE

The option offers three values, but only Full actually opens the fields. The middle option restricts tribes exactly as though editing were switched off entirely. If you want tribes maintaining their own details, choose Full and control the detail with the field settings instead.

The same setting covers the website fields a tribe type adds to the Website tab of Edit Tribe. Below Full, a tribe user sees them but cannot type in them; Populate Default Content can still fill them with your organisation's default content.

Field settings

Fields are grouped into Contact Information, Logo & Branding, Social & Review Links, Address & Location, Opening Hours, Website & Content, Media, AI Features and the contact form. Each can be open to tribes, restricted to administrators, or switched off completely, and each can carry a hint shown under the field.

Use the hints. "Ring head office before changing this" under a field prevents more mistakes than locking it does.

RESET TO DEFAULTS OPENS EVERY FIELD TO EVERY TRIBE

The reset button sets every field to tribe-editable and clears every hint you have written. It says it cannot be undone and it means it. There is no export of your settings first, so note them down if they took a while to get right.

What a lock stops

A locked field is greyed out for tribe users, and for most fields a change is also refused when the form is saved. The exceptions are noted below. Anyone with a role in the organisation is not held by the locks, because they are the people who set them.

POPULATE DEFAULT CONTENT STILL FILLS LOCKED PAGE TEXT

The page text under Website & Content (the headings, caption, meta title and description, and the introductions) and the tribe type content are greyed out when locked, but a tribe user can still press Populate Default Content. It fills them with your organisation's defaults, and saving keeps them. For these fields the lock is a guardrail on the screen only: anything that genuinely must not change belongs behind a permission instead.

Two things worth knowing

The message telling a tribe to contact support about its address is informational only — whether the address is actually editable comes from the field settings.
Opening-hours field locks can be configured but are not applied on the hours screen, so hours stay editable by anyone who can reach the form.
