What counts as a new lead

The new-leads window setting, what it changes, and how to pick a period that matches how you sell.

Last updated September 2, 2026

"New" has to mean something specific before the CRM can count it. The new-leads window is that definition: how recently a lead must have arrived to still count as new.

Choosing a period

The options run from the last 7 days to the last 90. Pick the one that matches how long a lead realistically stays fresh in your trade.

WindowSuits
7 or 14 daysFast-moving work where a lead is cold within a fortnight.
30 daysMost businesses. A sensible default.
60 or 90 daysLong, considered purchases where a month is nothing.

What it affects

The lists and counts that describe new leads. Widening the window does not create any leads — it changes how many of the ones you already have are still described as new.

DO NOT TUNE IT TO MAKE THE NUMBER LOOK BETTER
Stretching the window to 90 days so the new-lead count looks healthy fools nobody for long, and it hides the real problem — that not enough is coming in. Set it once, honestly, and leave it alone.
