Adding Members
Membership statuses explained
The six statuses, which of them bill, and which of them count in your reports.
Last updated September 2, 2026
| Status | Meaning | Bills? |
|---|---|---|
| Pending | Created but not started. The default on a new membership. | No |
| Active | Live and billing on its schedule. | Yes |
| Paused | Temporarily stopped, kept on the record. | No |
| Finished | Ran its course and ended. | No |
| Rejected | Never went ahead. | No |
| Deleted | Removed from view and from reporting. | No |
Only Active ever raises a charge. Everything else sits quietly, which is why an unbilled member is nearly always a status problem rather than a billing fault.
How they change
- Pending → Active when somebody presses Start Membership, or when a vendor completes their own registration.
- Active → Finished automatically, overnight, once the end date has passed.
- Anything else is a manual edit.
What the reports count
- Recurring revenue counts Active recurring memberships only.
- Gains and losses counts things that started or ended, including Finished and Paused — but never Deleted, Rejected or Pending.
- The customer portal hides Deleted and Rejected from the member.
