Finding a company's phone number

Looking up a business number from public listings, picking the right one, and what to do about chains with dozens of branches.

Last updated September 2, 2026

Imported lists routinely arrive without phone numbers. Find Phone Number on a company searches public business listings and shows you what it found, so you can pick the right one rather than trusting a guess.

Picking the right listing

The lookup returns the business listings it matched, with their addresses. You choose. That extra step exists because the name alone is rarely enough — a common trade name can return a dozen unrelated businesses in different towns.

  • Match on the address first, not the name.
  • For a chain, pick the branch you actually deal with — head office is rarely the number you want.
  • If nothing has a phone number, the business has no public listing with one, and no amount of retrying will change that.

Improving your odds

A company with an accurate name and address matches far more reliably than one with a name alone. If a lookup comes back with nothing useful, fill in the address and try again.

WHERE THIS BEATS THE CONTACT LOOKUP
A main business number gets answered. A found personal mobile often does not, and it costs an allowance to find. For a first approach to an unknown account, start with the company.
