After the Competition
Following up automatically when a competition ends
The Promotion ended trigger, when it fires, and the one rule that decides whether it works at all.

Marketing Automations has a Promotion ended trigger. Build a workflow on it and everybody who entered is enrolled the moment the competition closes — the winner announcement, a consolation offer, or a nurture sequence.
Build the workflow before the competition ends
When exactly it fires
Within an hour of midnight following the end date, in your organisation's timezone. It is not instant, and it is not tied to you changing the status — marking a competition Finished by hand does not fire it, and does not stop it firing either.
Choosing which competitions
The trigger has a Which Promotions? filter. Leave it empty and the workflow fires when any competition ends — which is a much wider audience than most people intend. Name the specific competition unless you genuinely want every one.
Who gets enrolled
- Every person who entered — once, however many entries they made.
- Each one carries the tribe they entered at, so a tribe-scoped workflow lands them under the right tribe.
- The workflow can use the competition's name and end date in its messages.
Extending re-arms it
Move the end date into the future and the competition becomes eligible to fire again at the new date. Everybody who already entered can be enrolled a second time, so add a stop condition or check your workflow tolerates it.
A competition with no end date never fires
There is nothing for the trigger to act on. This is one more reason to set an end date on every competition.
