Promotion Basics
What Promotions is for
Prize competitions that capture leads from your website — and what the module deliberately is not.

A promotion in Gorilla Dash is a prize competition. You publish an entry form on your website, people enter, and every entrant becomes a contact you can market to — attached to the tribe they entered at.
It is not a discount or voucher system
The one promotion type available is Competition. Everything in the module is built around running one and following up the people who entered.
Why you would run one
- Building a list — a competition is the cheapest honest way to get people to hand over an email address.
- Local activity — entries are attributed to the tribe the entrant chose, so each tribe gets its own leads.
- Finding non-customers — the analytics separate entrants who have never bought from you from existing customers.
- Feeding automations — entering a promotion can advance a contact's lifecycle stage, and a workflow can follow up everybody when the competition ends.
What happens when somebody enters
- A contact is created, or an existing one is matched and updated.
- The entry is recorded against the promotion and the tribe.
- The entrant is emailed a confirmation about ten seconds later.
- A Promotion Entry activity is logged on their contact record.
- Mailing lists and customer buckets that filter on promotions pick them up.
Who can do what
Only the organisation creates promotions. Tribes cannot build one. What a tribe can do is see the entries made at their tribe — if you have switched that on — and mark each one with a follow-up status.
