Setting up communication log types

The kinds of conversation your team records, keeping the list quick to use, and what it feeds.

Last updated September 2, 2026

When someone logs a conversation they pick a type. The list is defined once for the organisation, so activity can be compared across every tribe.

Keep it to a handful

Call, email, meeting, site visit — that is most businesses covered. Every extra option is another decision at the moment a rep is trying to log something quickly and move on, and logging that takes too long does not happen.

What the types feed

  • The Activity Report, which counts work by type.
  • The contact and company Communications history.
  • Last contacted, which counts any logged conversation as a real touch.
DO NOT MAKE THE TYPE CARRY THE OUTCOME
Types like "Call — no answer" and "Call — spoke to decision maker" double the list and still cannot cover reality. The type is what kind of contact it was; what happened belongs in the note.
