Company custom fields

Recording the things about an account that Gorilla Dash has no box for, and where they appear once you have.

Custom company fields hold whatever your business needs to know about an account that the standard fields do not cover — an account number from another system, a contract renewal month, a delivery instruction, a franchise territory.

Setting them up

Create them once for the organisation in CRM Settings, and every tribe records the same thing the same way. Pick a list of options over free text wherever you can — free text cannot be filtered or counted reliably.

Where they appear

  • On the company form when you create or edit an account.
  • On the company profile, under Additional Fields.
  • In the company import's column mapping.
BEFORE THE IMPORT, ALWAYS
A field that does not exist cannot be mapped, and the spreadsheet column is dropped without a word. Create the fields first, then import.

Company field or contact field?

Put it on the company if it is true of the business — the account number, the territory, the contract. Put it on the contact if it is true of the person — their preference, their role, their birthday. Recording a business fact on every contact means updating it in five places when it changes.
