Finding other tribes in the Tribe Directory

Searching the directory by location, product or team member, what each listing shows, keeping your own tribe's listing up to date, and writing endorsements.

Last updated October 20, 2026

The Tribe Directory lists the tribes in your organisation on a map, with each tribe's contact details, the products, services and equipment it offers, its team members, and endorsements written by people in your organisation. A tribe is one location, branch or business unit inside your organisation. Use the directory when you need to find the nearest tribe that can help a customer, or the right person to call at another tribe.

Opening the directory

  • From a tribe, select Tribe Directory in the tribe's left-hand menu. The entry appears when your tribe role includes the Tribe Information permission group.
  • From the organisation, select Tribe Directory in the Tribes menu. It appears when your organisation role includes the View Tribe Directory permission group. On this page each tribe's name is a link that opens the tribe.

Both pages show the same listings. The map starts on your own tribe when you open it from a tribe, and on your organisation's address when you open it from the organisation.

Searching for a tribe

Directory Results always shows the ten tribes closest to the centre of the map, nearest first. Searching is therefore a matter of moving the map to the right place and then narrowing the results down:

  1. Under Location Search, type a suburb, town or address and choose it from the suggestions. The map moves there and the results update.
  2. Alternatively, select any point on the Interactive Map, or select a tribe's pin, to centre the search there instead.
  3. Use Search & Filters to narrow the list, as described below. Each change updates the results straight away.
  • Search matches a tribe's name, suburb or town, or state.
  • Search team members, when ticked, makes Search also match the first and last names of each tribe's team members, and highlights the names it matched.
  • Products & Services and Equipment each pick one item from your organisation's list, and show only tribes that offer it. Choose All to clear the filter.
  • Tribe Tags shows only tribes carrying at least one of the tags you choose.

The Tribe Tags filter, and the count of contacts in the network at the top of the page, are shown only to people with organisation-level access to tribes. If you sign in as a tribe user only, you will not see either of them.

A TRIBE IS MISSING FROM THE RESULTS
The directory lists only tribes whose status is Active and that have a pin on the map. If a tribe never appears, open it, select the cog to open Edit Tribe, and check that the Location tab has an address and map pin. If it does, move the map closer to the tribe, because only the ten nearest tribes are listed at any one time.

What a listing shows

Each tribe in the results has a card. Selecting the address opens it in Google Maps, and selecting an email address or phone number starts an email or a call. A card can show:

  • The tribe's public statuses, as coloured labels. People with a role in your organisation also see statuses that are not public.
  • The main contact's name, the address, an email address and a phone number, with its extension when the listing has one. When the tribe has not entered a contact email or phone for its listing, the card shows the public email address and main phone number from the tribe's profile, without the main number's extension.
  • Products & Services and Equipment. The items the tribe has starred are listed first; select Show More to see the rest.
  • Services Provided and Services Not Provided, written by the tribe in its own words.
  • About, a short description of the tribe.
  • Team Members, with each person's photo, position, mobile number and email address.
  • Endorsements people in your organisation have written about the tribe.
TEAM MEMBERS' CONTACT DETAILS ARE SHOWN TO THE WHOLE DIRECTORY
Every team member listed on a card has their mobile number and email address shown to everyone in your organisation who can open the directory. A person is listed only while they are Active and Show in directory is ticked on their team member record. To keep somebody off the directory, untick Show in directory for them.

Keeping your tribe's listing up to date

On a tribe's Tribe Directory page, Edit Listing appears on your own tribe's card when your tribe role allows you to edit the directory. On the organisation's Tribe Directory page it appears on every card for people whose organisation role includes the Edit Tribe Directory permission group. Either way, Save and Cancel take you back to the directory page you opened it from.

  1. Find the tribe's card in the directory and select Edit Listing. The Edit Directory Listing screen opens.
  2. Fill in Main Contact Name, Main Contact Email and Main Contact Phone. For the phone, choose the country first and then type the number, so that it can be dialled correctly from anywhere. If callers need an extension to reach the contact, type its digits in Telephone Extension under the phone, not after the number.
  3. Write a short description of the tribe in About.
  4. Under Services Specifically Provided and Services Specifically Not Provided, add one row for each service you want to call out, and type its name.
  5. Under Products and Services and Equipment, tick each item your tribe offers. Select the star beside an item to feature it at the top of your card.
  6. Select Save.
  • The products, services and equipment you can tick come from your organisation's list, kept on Directory Settings under Settings in the Tribes menu. If an item is missing, ask whoever looks after that list to add it.
  • If the phone number cannot be read as a valid number for the country you chose, it is saved blank, along with its extension, and the card falls back to the tribe's main phone number. Check the card after you save.
  • Telephone Extension takes digits only, up to 10 of them, and needs a Main Contact Phone to go with it. The card shows it after the number, and selecting the number on a phone dials the extension after a short pause, once the call has connected.
  • Edit Team opens the tribe's Team Members, where you choose who appears on the card.
  • Saving the listing is done in three parts: the contact details, About, Services Specifically Provided and Services Specifically Not Provided first, then Products and Services, then Equipment. If one of the last two cannot be saved, a message names it and you stay on the screen with your changes. Select Save again to finish; saving twice does no harm.

Writing an endorsement

An endorsement is a short, written recommendation of a tribe — for example, thanking a neighbouring tribe for a rush job it helped you with. Anybody in your organisation who can open the directory can endorse any of its tribes.

  1. Find the tribe in the directory and select Write an endorsement at the bottom of its card. The Share Your Experience dialog opens.
  2. If the endorsement is about one particular product or service, choose it under Which service or product are you endorsing? (Optional). Leave it blank for a general endorsement.
  3. Write your endorsement under Your endorsement. It can be up to 500 characters long.
  4. Select Publish Endorsement.
WHO CAN READ AN ENDORSEMENT
An endorsement appears on the tribe's card in the Tribe Directory, with your name on it, for everyone in your organisation who can open the directory. It is not shown on your websites or anywhere outside your organisation.

Changing or deleting an endorsement

An endorsement cannot be edited once it is published. To change what you wrote, delete it and write a new one. You can delete endorsements you wrote yourself. People with a role in your organisation, and people whose role in the endorsed tribe includes the Tribe Information permission group, can delete any endorsement about that tribe.

  1. Find the endorsement on the tribe's card and select the bin icon in its top-right corner. The icon appears only on endorsements you are allowed to delete.
  2. Read the confirmation, which names the author and the tribe, and select Delete to confirm.
A DELETED ENDORSEMENT CANNOT BE RESTORED
Deleting an endorsement removes it permanently. If you only want to change its wording, copy the text before you delete it so you can paste it into the new one.
