Understanding user roles: Tribe Owner vs Tribe Admin vs Standard User

Gorilla Dash uses a role-based permission system to control what users can see and do within a tribe (your franchise location or brand). This article explains each role and when to assign them.

Role overview

  • Tribe Owner — Full access: manage users, billing, settings, all content and integrations. Typical use: Franchise owner or designated platform admin.
  • Tribe Admin — Manage content, campaigns, support tickets, and some settings — cannot manage billing or add/remove owners. Typical use: Marketing coordinator, operations manager.
  • Standard User — View and interact with content and tools as permitted by the owner/admin — no settings access. Typical use: Franchisee team member, general staff.

Tribe Owner

The Tribe Owner has the highest permission level within a tribe.

Owners can:

  • Add, edit, and remove all users including other Admins
  • Access billing and subscription settings
  • Manage all platform integrations (Google, Facebook, CRM, etc.)
  • Configure tribe-wide settings such as branding, domains, and notification preferences
  • Access and manage all content, campaigns, and support tickets

Tribe Admin

Tribe Admins can manage day-to-day operations without access to billing or ownership settings.

Admins can:

  • Create and publish content, campaigns, and posts
  • Manage and respond to support tickets
  • Invite and manage Standard Users
  • Access reporting and analytics
  • Update certain tribe settings (varies by configuration)

Note: Tribe Admins cannot add or remove Tribe Owners, access billing, or change subscription settings. If you need to perform those actions, ask a Tribe Owner.

Standard User

Standard Users have limited, read-or-interact-level access. Their specific permissions depend on what the Tribe Owner or Admin has configured. They generally cannot access platform settings, billing, or user management.

Assigning roles

  1. Go to your tribe settings and open the Users or Team section.
  2. Click Invite User or find an existing user.
  3. Select the appropriate role from the Role dropdown.
  4. Save or send the invite.

Changing an existing user's role

  1. Go to tribe settings → Users.
  2. Find the user and click Edit or their name.
  3. Change the Role field and save.

Note: Only Tribe Owners can promote a user to Tribe Admin or Tribe Owner. If you cannot see these options, you may not have Owner-level access.

Troubleshooting: Components greyed out or not showing

If pages under Websites > Components are greyed out/uneditable or aren’t appearing on the homepage, this is typically a permissions issue.

  • Confirm the user’s role grants permission to edit tribe website pages/components. If not, have a Tribe Owner or Admin adjust the user’s role accordingly.
  • After changing a user’s role, have them sign out and back in to refresh their permissions.
  • If the user already has the correct role but Components remain greyed out or missing, contact Support to review tribe page permissions.
