Laura and Wes Fernando have been awarded the title of Just Cuts Franchisees of the Year for 2025, a recognition that celebrates their success in building and sustaining two thriving salons in regional New South Wales. The honor was announced at Just Cuts’ annual conference in the Barossa Valley, shining a spotlight on their contribution to the brand’s growth and community presence.
Laura Fernando, who has worked in hairdressing for more than two decades, transitioned from salon floors to business ownership in 2019 when she and her husband, Wes Fernando, opened their first Just Cuts salon in Grafton. Two years later, they expanded to Armidale, replicating their focus on quality service and local engagement. Their hands-on approach ensures that both locations remain community hubs where clients feel connected and valued.
Amber Manning, chief executive officer of Just Cuts, commended the couple for their dedication and leadership within the franchise system. “Laura and Wes are a true example of what it means to live and breathe our brand. They support their teams, go above and beyond for clients, and remain active in their local communities,” Manning said.
While Laura leads day-to-day salon operations, Wes brings additional expertise through his work with Gombiz Solutions, a consultancy he founded to support governance and capability-building for Indigenous and regional organizations. As a proud member of the Gomeroi nation, Wes has focused on strengthening community ties while also ensuring the couple’s salons maintain operational excellence.
The Fernandos’ involvement extends beyond their salon walls, with regular participation in local events such as the Jacaranda Festival in Grafton and the Armidale Show. Their visibility and community commitment have helped create a loyal customer base while reinforcing the Just Cuts brand in regional markets.
By combining professional discipline with genuine connection, Laura and Wes Fernando have demonstrated how franchise ownership can succeed when paired with passion and purpose. Their recognition as Franchisees of the Year reflects not only their business performance but also their ability to embody the values of Just Cuts while contributing to the broader community.
