Del Taco has introduced the All-American Burgertaco, a limited-time menu item that combines the flavors of a cheeseburger with the format of a taco. The product launched on August 6 and represents one of the chain’s most unusual menu experiments in recent years.
The company said the item was designed to draw on Del Taco’s longstanding history of serving both burgers and tacos, a combination that dates back to its founding in 1964. Executives described the launch as an effort to celebrate that dual identity while offering customers something new.
The Burgertaco features two grilled-to-order beef patties, American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and the brand’s signature burger sauce, all wrapped in warm, buttery toast. Del Taco is positioning the item as a limited-time offering, a strategy commonly used by restaurant chains to generate urgency and increase customer traffic.
The launch is accompanied by a new line of Dirty Del beverages, which blend a vanilla shake base with a hint of lime. Together, the food and beverage offerings are intended to create a distinctive promotional moment and encourage trial among both burger and taco customers.
Restaurant analysts say hybrid menu items have become an increasingly common way for quick-service brands to stand out in a crowded market. By combining familiar flavors in unexpected formats, chains can attract social-media attention and spark conversation without overhauling their core menus.
For restaurant franchises running short-term promotions, coordinated execution across multiple locations is essential. Through Gorilla Dash, operators can organize campaign messaging, promotional timelines, and customer engagement initiatives within a centralized Competitions and Promotions system, helping limited-time launches remain consistent across the network.
