Nada Gabra and Peter Gabraeil turn a family tradition into a thriving business with their Bruster’s Real Ice Cream location in California.

  • Nada and Peter opened their Bruster’s franchise in 2023, focusing on community and family.
  • They were inspired by their daughter’s idea to start the business.
  • Bruster’s corporate team provided exceptional support from day one.

When Nada Gabra and her husband, Peter Gabraeil, opened their Bruster’s Real Ice Cream location in Yorba Linda, California, they did more than start a new business—they laid the foundation for a family-centered lifestyle built around community, connection, and handcrafted ice cream. Two years into their journey, Nada reflects on how the franchise has brought joy and meaning into both their professional and personal lives.

Before joining the Bruster’s family, Nada and Peter operated a transportation company for a decade. Like many small business owners, they were forced to pivot during the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. While searching for a new venture, inspiration struck during a simple family outing. Bruster’s had always been part of their Sunday routine, and it was their daughter who jokingly suggested they open one of their own so she could have unlimited ice cream. That moment became a turning point.

The decision to join Bruster’s came easily. They didn’t explore other franchises. The couple instantly felt that Bruster’s was the right fit, not only because of their familiarity with the product but because of the emotional connection it fostered. For Nada and Peter, owning a Bruster’s wasn’t just about financial opportunity—it was about creating something their entire family could be part of.

“We have three kids, and time together is precious,” Nada explained. “Bruster’s is incredibly family-oriented. We’re all involved in running the store, and that shared experience has brought us even closer. Some of our best memories have happened right inside our shop.”

The sense of belonging extended beyond their immediate family. Even before becoming official franchisees, Nada and Peter were invited to dinner at the home of Bruster’s founder, Bruce Reed. That personal touch stood out. “It was so unexpected,” Nada said. “We felt welcomed and supported from the very beginning. It felt like joining a family, not just buying into a brand.”

Their store officially opened on July 1, 2023, and the Yorba Linda community responded enthusiastically. From first-time visitors to returning customers celebrating birthdays and date nights, the store quickly became a neighborhood staple. Nada described the reception as “overwhelmingly loving,” and she credits that energy with making their experience even more rewarding.

Opening any business comes with challenges, but Nada said Bruster’s provided unwavering support throughout the process. “From day one, they guided us step by step,” she shared. “We never felt lost or alone. If we had a question, someone was always there to help. That made all the difference.”

Looking ahead, the couple is already considering expansion, with hopes of opening additional Bruster’s locations. Their goal is to bring the same sense of joy, community, and premium handcrafted ice cream to even more families. Nada remains confident in their choice. “If I had the chance to go back, I’d choose Bruster’s every time. It’s not just a business—it’s our life.”

Bruster’s Real Ice Cream is known for its wide range of handcrafted products, including more than 150 rotating flavors of premium ice cream, sorbet, Italian ice, yogurt, and non-dairy options. The company’s focus on family values, hands-on support, and community relationships has helped it grow to over 200 independently owned locations across 22 states and Guyana.

For those inspired by Nada and Peter’s journey, their story is a reminder that the right franchise opportunity can transform not just careers but entire family dynamics. As Nada puts it, “Bruster’s is an amazing company—it truly feels like family.”
