Japanese-Mexican fusion sensation TokyoTaco has officially opened its second Australian location on the vibrant Mooloolaba Esplanade, introducing Sunshine Coast locals and tourists to a bold coastal dining experience. The new 80-seat restaurant pairs oceanfront views with an eclectic design that blends Japanese minimalism and Mexican warmth, showcasing handcrafted Nagoya tiles, earthy terracotta accents, and a striking mural by artist Charlie Nivison. A standout feature, the 2.5-meter pop-out window, nods to the brand’s street-food roots while inviting passersby into a dynamic culinary space.
Co-founder Jordan Hajek highlighted the brand’s mission to create flavour-forward dishes that combine “sashimi with salsa,” reflecting TokyoTaco’s commitment to creativity and fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Among the signature menu offerings are the miso baked salmon taco topped with Japanese mayo and caramelised chilli, the slow-braised beef nachoSu with pico de gallo, and the cult-favorite TacoFries seasoned with the brand’s proprietary salt blend.
The Mooloolaba store is designed for convenience and flexibility, with ordering options that include self-service kiosks, mobile app integration, takeaway, and full bar service. To celebrate the launch, TokyoTaco will offer 500 free tacos to app users during a limited-time weekend promotion, adding excitement to the brand’s Sunshine Coast debut and encouraging new customer engagement.
Founded in Sydney’s Newtown in 2022, TokyoTaco is expanding under a dedicated Australian franchise entity established in 2024. The Mooloolaba location underscores the company’s strategic focus on coastal markets, combining standout design, immersive flavour experiences, and community-centric launch initiatives to fuel national growth.
