QSR veteran Fitzpatrick joins Subway July 28 to drive franchise growth and operational revitalization.

  • Jonathan Fitzpatrick appointed as Subway CEO effective July 28, 2025.
  • Fitzpatrick aims to boost sales and franchise profitability.
  • He previously served as President and CEO of Driven Brands.

Subway has named Jonathan Fitzpatrick as its new Chief Executive Officer, with his appointment set to take effect on July 28, 2025. With more than two decades of leadership experience in the franchising and quick-service restaurant industries, Fitzpatrick is expected to guide the global sandwich brand into a new phase of growth and operational innovation.

Fitzpatrick most recently served as President and CEO of Driven Brands, where he led the company through an impressive streak of 17 consecutive quarters of same-store sales growth. His success in optimizing operations and driving profitability positioned him as a strategic leader in the industry. Before joining Driven Brands, he held several executive roles at Burger King, including Executive Vice President and Chief Brand and Operations Officer. There, he spearheaded the brand’s largest-ever menu overhaul, simplified operational procedures, and led a global image refresh that elevated the brand’s market presence.

Expressing enthusiasm about his new role, Fitzpatrick stated, “I’m honored to lead this iconic brand that has been serving guests around the world for 60 years. Subway has a solid foundation built on decades of providing freshly made, better-for-you options with value and convenience. I’m excited by the opportunity to shape the future of the company, working alongside our valued franchisees and employees to help drive increased sales and franchisee profitability and grow our brand around the world.”

Fitzpatrick will take the reins from Interim CEO Carrie Walsh, ensuring a seamless leadership transition during a pivotal time for the company. His arrival follows a period of transformation at Subway, where the focus has been on modernizing the menu, improving guest experiences, and strengthening support for franchisees.

As Subway continues to compete in a fast-evolving market, Fitzpatrick’s proven track record in driving franchise-led growth and enhancing operational efficiency is expected to play a critical role in revitalizing the brand’s global strategy. His leadership will be vital in helping the company address challenges such as increasing competition, evolving consumer preferences, and optimizing restaurant performance.

With nearly 37,000 locations across more than 100 countries, Subway remains one of the world’s largest and most recognized quick-service restaurant chains. Under Fitzpatrick’s direction, the brand is positioning itself for renewed relevance and sustained global expansion.
