Leeds is preparing for the arrival of SticksʹnʹSushi, the Danish‑Japanese dining group, which has confirmed plans for its next UK restaurant in the heart of the city. The 18th British location will open at 80 Vicar Lane in early 2027, taking over a three‑storey, grade-II listed building. Andreas Karlsson, the company’s CEO, described the new restaurant as a milestone in the brand’s northern expansion and said it reflects their commitment to delivering a high-quality dining experience across the UK.
The new restaurant will cover 8,839 square feet, featuring a 220-seat dining area, a 30-seat outdoor terrace, and an upstairs bar ideal for private gatherings. Berlin-based architects Diener & Diener have designed the interiors, blending Scandinavian minimalism with Japanese elegance to create a calm and sophisticated atmosphere throughout the space.
The menu will showcase sushi, sashimi, salads, and grilled sticks, accompanied by beverages such as sake, Japanese teas, and a signature yuzu pale ale. The dining format encourages sharing and communal enjoyment, reflecting SticksʹnʹSushiʹs signature style. Karlsson noted that the menu is designed to appeal to the diverse tastes of Leeds diners while maintaining the brand’s authentic Danish-Japanese identity.
The Leeds restaurant will also generate approximately 60 new jobs across front-of-house, kitchen, and management roles, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to supporting local employment. This opening follows a planned launch in Manchester, highlighting SticksʹnʹSushiʹs strategy to expand into northern UK cities and diversify its footprint beyond the south.
As planning continues, the Leeds site is expected to play a prominent role in the city’s leisure and retail landscape. With its combination of design, menu, and hospitality, the restaurant aims to become a significant attraction for both residents and visitors when it opens in early 2027.
