A new franchise deal will bring the Atlanta-born brand to South Nashville, aiming at students and young professionals near Vanderbilt and Belmont.

  • Flying Biscuit Café signs a franchise agreement for South Nashville.
  • Shreya Patel to lead the first Nashville branch with her expertise.
  • The café aims at residents, students, and young professionals.

The Flying Biscuit Café has signed a franchise agreement with Shreya Patel to bring the Atlanta-born brunch brand to South Nashville, marking the chain's first location in the city and its third in Tennessee, following existing cafés in Knoxville and Kingsport. The agreement covers a single café in the South Nashville Proper trade area, with site selection currently underway and an address and opening date to be announced once a lease is signed.

Patel brings a background in supply chain management along with prior restaurant ownership and management experience, and will serve as a full-time owner-operator overseeing day-to-day operations. She was introduced to Flying Biscuit by business partners who had encountered the brand while operating restaurants in another market, and stayed connected to it after relocating to Nashville. She said the food and the daytime-only operating model, which closes after lunch and avoids staffing a dinner or late-night shift, were what ultimately sold her on the concept.

South Nashville has drawn significant investment in recent years, including GEODIS Park, the Nashville Fairgrounds, AJ Capital Partners' 18-acre Wedgewood Village development, and a 4,400-seat Live Nation venue set to open this fall. Patel is targeting students, young professionals and area employees, pointing to the neighborhood's proximity to Vanderbilt and Belmont as a natural fit for the brand's brunch-forward menu of all-day breakfast, shrimp and grits, stuffed French toast and vegan scrambles.

Andrew Scherzer, partner and director of franchise development for Flying Biscuit Franchising, said Patel's target trade area continues to show strong growth and aligns with the brand's daytime, community-focused model. Patel said she hopes to eventually grow to as many as three Flying Biscuit locations over time, expanding beyond this first café as the opportunity allows.

Flying Biscuit Franchising continues awarding new territories across the Southeast and Texas as it works to bring on owner-operators like Patel. Managing that kind of ongoing franchise development, from initial inquiry through a signed agreement, is its own operational task.
