Fatburger has returned to Japan with the opening of a new restaurant in Okinawa, marking a notable step in the brand’s international expansion. The launch comes through a partnership with Green Micro Factory Inc. and signals a renewed commitment to a market where American dining brands have long found an enthusiastic audience. For Fatburger, the opening represents both a homecoming and a strategic move into a region that blends strong local demand with steady tourism.
Founded more than 70 years ago in Los Angeles, Fatburger has built its reputation on made to order burgers and a menu defined by customization. Jake Berchtold, chief operating officer of FAT Brands’ Fast Casual Division, said the brand’s core promise of fresh, authentic food remains central to its appeal. He noted that the Okinawa location is designed to deliver the same experience that has sustained Fatburger’s global presence, while introducing new customers to its distinctive approach.
The menu offers a broad range of choices beyond its signature burgers, allowing diners to personalize their meals with an extensive selection of toppings. Alongside classic beef options, guests can choose alternatives such as the Impossible Burger, a variety of fries including sweet potato, and hand scooped milkshakes made with real ice cream. The diversity reflects the brand’s effort to appeal to modern tastes while remaining true to its roots.
Yasushi Okuda of Green Micro Factory Inc. described Okinawa as an ideal setting for Fatburger’s return, citing its mix of local residents and international visitors. He said the anticipation surrounding the opening reflects strong interest in familiar American concepts delivered with consistency and quality. As Fatburger reestablishes its presence in Japan, the Okinawa opening sets the tone for what the company hopes will be a successful new chapter in its global growth story.
