Fatburger has officially entered the French market with the opening of a new restaurant in Rosny-sous-Bois, located in the Paris metropolitan area. The launch marks the first step in a broader strategy by FAT Brands to develop 30 locations across France in partnership with local operator groups.
The expansion underscores France’s importance as a strategic growth market for the brand. FAT Brands has identified the region as a key opportunity to introduce its customizable, made-to-order burger concept to a new audience. The Rosny-sous-Bois location serves as the foundation for a multi-unit rollout that is expected to accelerate in the coming years.
Fatburger, which originated in Los Angeles more than 70 years ago, has built its reputation on cooked-to-order burgers with a wide range of customization options. Customers can tailor their meals with toppings such as bacon, chili, and onion rings, while the broader menu includes items like sweet potato fries, plant-based burgers, and hand-scooped milkshakes.
Jake Berchtold, chief operating officer of FAT Brands’ fast casual division, emphasized the importance of the French market and the company’s partnership with local operators. He noted that additional locations are expected to open later this year, including sites in both northern and southern France, reflecting the brand’s commitment to expanding its presence nationwide.
As Fatburger begins its expansion in France, the brand faces both opportunity and competition in a market known for its strong culinary traditions. The success of this rollout will likely depend on its ability to balance its American identity with local consumer preferences, while maintaining the quality and customization that define its global appeal.
