Shipley Donuts is preparing to enter the Metro Detroit market through a 15-unit franchise agreement with Hole Lotta Dough, LLC, marking a significant expansion for the Texas-based brand. The development will span Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne counties, with the first location expected to open in late first quarter 2027 and additional stores planned over the following four years.
Founded in Houston in 1936, Shipley Donuts has built its reputation around fresh glazed donuts, Texas-style kolaches, and bakery production that begins in the early morning hours. The company said its Detroit-area stores will follow the same operating model, including its signature Hot Glazed Guarantee, which offers warm glazed donuts during morning service.
The local franchise group brings more than two decades of experience in Metro Detroit’s gas and convenience-store industry. Executives said that combination of local market knowledge and familiarity with the Shipley brand made the partnership a natural fit as the company looks to strengthen its Midwest footprint.
Shipley Donuts has accelerated franchise growth in recent years while continuing to emphasize its Texas heritage. The company recently appeared on the Fast Casual Top 100 Movers & Shakers and Technomic Top 500 Chain Restaurants rankings, signaling broader national momentum as it approaches its 90th anniversary.
For restaurant franchise systems expanding into new territories, maintaining consistent performance across locations becomes increasingly important. Through Gorilla Dash, operators can use Benchmarking tools to compare store results, identify operational trends, and support data-driven decision-making as additional units come online.
The Metro Detroit agreement represents more than a new market entry for Shipley Donuts. It is a long-term development commitment that could introduce a distinctly Texas breakfast tradition to one of the Midwest’s largest metropolitan regions while extending the brand’s reach well beyond its traditional Southern base.
