Zaxby's is making its long-awaited debut in Ohio, bringing a taste of the South to the Midwest through a 10-store development agreement. The beloved quick-service restaurant, known for its Chicken Fingerz, wings, and a dozen signature sauces, is preparing to open new locations across Columbus and Dayton. The expansion marks a major step in the company’s national growth strategy, signaling confidence in its ability to thrive in a competitive fast-casual landscape.
Leading the charge is Charles Terry, a seasoned franchise operator with an impressive background in both athletics and food service. A former NBA strength and conditioning coach, Terry has built a strong reputation in the franchise world through his success with brands such as Crumbl Cookies and Popeyes. His leadership approach combines discipline, teamwork, and operational excellence, making him a natural fit to bring Zaxbys to a new audience. “The operational playbook is strong, and the brand is built for smart, sustainable growth,” Terry said.
For Zaxby's, Ohio represents more than just a new market. It is part of a broader effort to expand across the Midwest, where demand for Southern-inspired comfort food continues to rise. Mike Mettler, Chief Development Officer at Zaxbys, described the move as a pivotal moment for the brand. “Ohio is a key step in accelerating Zaxbys’ footprint,” he said. The company has recently grown in Chicago and Indiana, building momentum that has helped solidify its position as one of the nation’s leading chicken franchises.
Since its founding in 1990, Zaxby's has become a mainstay of the fast-casual chicken scene with nearly 1,000 locations across the United States. The new restaurants in Ohio are expected to capture both loyal fans and first-time guests with the brand’s signature blend of quality, service, and community spirit. As Zaxbys continues to grow, it remains committed to preserving its Southern roots while adapting to local tastes, creating dining experiences that feel both familiar and fresh.
