Fast-food chain Schnitz elevates two internal stars in leadership changes gearing up for broader expansion

Schnitz has announced a significant shift in its leadership team with the appointment of Ali Kurtdereli as its new Head of Franchising. The move underscores the company’s ambition to strengthen its franchise network and expand its presence both within Australia and abroad.

Kurtdereli arrives at Schnitz with extensive experience in franchise management and operations. Most recently, he served as General Manager of Store Transition at Retail Food Group, where he focused on supporting outlets through periods of operational change. Before that, he spent nearly seven years at Retail Zoo, dividing his time between the role of Franchise Development Manager and as General Manager of Cibo Espresso, one of the group’s coffee brands. His career in franchise development began in 2017 at Emirates Leisure Retail Australia, giving him more than eight years of industry expertise.

Upon the announcement, Kurtdereli shared his enthusiasm in a LinkedIn post. He wrote that he is eager to collaborate with his new colleagues, work closely with existing partners, and welcome new franchisees into the business. He emphasized that Schnitz is in an exciting stage of growth and that he looks forward to helping the brand extend its reach while continuing to support the needs of its current operators.

The leadership reshuffle also includes a promotion for Kate Hopley, who has been elevated from Franchise Manager to General Manager of Operations Excellence and Capability. Hopley brings a strong background in operational leadership, having spent 13 years at SpudBar in roles that included National Operations Manager and Chief Executive Officer. Her new position at Schnitz will focus on building consistency, capability and operational standards across the company’s restaurant network.

Industry analysts note that such appointments highlight the growing importance of operational consistency in the fast-casual dining sector. Franchisors are increasingly tasked with balancing expansion plans with the need to deliver reliable customer experiences, and Schnitz appears determined to reinforce both sides of that equation.

With Kurtdereli leading franchise strategy and Hopley driving operational improvements, Schnitz is positioning itself to manage growth with discipline while preparing for future opportunities. The appointments are viewed as a signal to franchise partners and competitors that Schnitz intends to remain a serious contender in Australia’s competitive fast-food landscape.

The changes also suggest a readiness to explore international growth, reflecting a broader trend in the industry where mid-sized brands are seeking new markets to sustain momentum. For Schnitz, the combination of strategic franchising expertise and operational oversight could prove critical in meeting the expectations of both investors and consumers.
