Newk’s Eatery is preparing to open its first Kansas location on December 10 at The Waterfront on Wichita’s East Side. The restaurant will offer seating for 146 guests and feature a large mural of the Wichita flag, creating a warm and inviting environment for diners. From the outset, the venue is designed to balance a lively atmosphere with comfortable, community-focused dining.
The opening festivities will begin with a VIP event on December 6, leading up to a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. on launch day. To celebrate, the first 100 guests will receive either a complimentary slice of cake or a refreshing drink. These gestures reflect the brand’s emphasis on hospitality and its desire to make a memorable first impression on the local community.
Franchise owner Melody Matulewic expressed her excitement about bringing Newk’s Eatery to Wichita. She said the team has been anticipating this opening for a long time and hopes the community will connect with the restaurant’s focus on service and carefully prepared meals. Co-owner Scott Hatchett added that the menu is designed to appeal to a wide range of diners, offering both dine-in and take-home options that emphasize fresh ingredients and approachable flavors.
The restaurant will operate daily from 10:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., serving lunch, dinner, and take-home meals. Guests can expect attentive service, a thoughtfully curated menu, and a space designed to welcome both individuals and families. By combining quality food with a positive dining experience, Newk’s aims to establish itself as a neighborhood destination in Wichita.
This opening marks a strategic step in the chain’s continued expansion beyond its established regional markets. By entering Kansas, Newk’s Eatery is testing new opportunities for growth while maintaining its commitment to fresh food, inviting spaces, and a community-oriented approach that has defined the brand from its inception.
