Perkins American Food Co. has appointed restaurant industry veteran Matt Carpenter as its new Brand President, reinforcing its leadership team during a period of growth and transformation. Carpenter joins the company with more than four decades of experience across restaurant operations, franchising, and brand development, positioning him to play a central role in Perkins’ evolving strategy.
Paul Damico, CEO of Ascent Hospitality Management, welcomed Carpenter to the organization and cited his extensive background as a strong match for the brand’s long term vision. Damico said Carpenter’s leadership experience and understanding of franchise systems will help strengthen operational consistency while supporting franchisees as the brand continues to modernize.
Carpenter most recently served as chief executive officer of TOMS King LLC, one of the largest Burger King franchise operators in North America. During his tenure, the company expanded to nearly 140 restaurants and generated more than $200 million in annual revenue. His career also includes senior leadership roles at Olga’s Kitchen, Frisch’s Restaurants, and Applebee’s International, where he led turnaround initiatives and operational improvements.
Reflecting on his new role, Carpenter said sustainable brand growth depends on investing in people. He emphasized the importance of providing franchise partners with clear systems, consistent support, and accountability. Drawing from experience as both a franchisor and franchisee, he said understanding the challenges on both sides of the relationship will guide his leadership approach.
Carpenter’s appointment comes as Perkins American Food Co. continues to refine its brand identity and operational model. The leadership change signals a renewed focus on franchise performance, modernization, and long term expansion, reinforcing Perkins’ position within the competitive family dining and casual restaurant segment.
