You know that fun little puzzle where you’d like to email a dazzling promotion to your best customers but first you have to work out who in your inbox is even a customer?
That is where Mailing Lists come in. And it’s easier than you think to use them to make more sales.
This month, we wanted to break down some of the basic (and super useful!) tools on the Dashboard, starting with Mailing Lists.
The first point of clarification is the fact that a mailing list doesn’t have to include your entire list of customers.
Individual contacts often get created when someone fills out a lead form or records migrate from the Point of Sale system. Or they could be added manually into Gorilla Dash.
Contacts could be a customer but also a lead, a vendor or anyone that your Tribe needs to keep track of.
A Mailing List is a specific group that you define yourself and send emails to. You give the Mailing List parameters and it pulls the right contacts together. That way you’re not manually sorting through names like it’s 2007.
The best bit? Mailing lists are dynamic.
That means when a contact matches the list rules, they will be added automatically. When they no longer match, they are removed.
Less manual sorting. Fewer stale lists.
More (dazzling) promotions sent to just the right people.
Quick Gorilla Dash Guide
Build a mailing list that updates itself
Mailing lists help your business contact the right people without rebuilding the list every time something changes.
Create the list
From the left menu, open Email Marketing. You can also pin this tool if you use it frequently.
Select Mailing List. You’ll see at least one list called “All People.” This will let you email everyone you’ve ever contacted. In most cases, you don’t want to do that.
Click the ➕ plus button at the top to create new Mailing List. Now you’ll decide who should be included.
You can define your list by:
Categories: These are defined by your organization and include a host of options.
Industries: The type of businesses such as financial, technology, schools or nonprofits.
Tags: This allows you to create your own categories. Start tagging businesses by a parameter you choose.
Promotions: Choose contacts who participated in specific past promotions.
Note that you can select more than one option. So you could target sales managers who work in real estate. Or business owners who run a restaurant. The sky is the limit!
Remember, if you choose Match any filter, you’ll get more options. Think construction companies AND warehouses.
Choose Must match all filters to be more specific: schools who ALSO participated in the year-end promotion in 2025.
Remember to give the mailing list a useful name that tells you exactly what the list contains. Click Save, and you’re done!
Keep your lists useful
Check the list before sending anything important.
Create Mailing Lists that match how your business actually works.
Review your lists periodically so they stay useful, not dusty.
No more list wrangling
Instead of relying on memory, old spreadsheets or someone’s “pretty sure this is the latest version” list, Mailing Lists help your business keep communication cleaner from the start.
When your messages are more relevant and timely, that sales increase.
If you hit a snag, spot something odd or have feedback, reach out. We want the good, the bad and the “please make this button easier to find.”
Go forth and send smarter,
