Potbelly franchisee Jignesh Patel has been named a 2026 Franchisee of the Year by the International Franchise Association, recognizing his entrepreneurial leadership, community involvement and investment in his team. Patel, who operates in the Austin market with fellow franchisee Nitin Patel, has grown an original six-shop development commitment into a plan for 15 Potbelly locations across the market. The recognition places his expansion and workforce-focused approach among the qualities highlighted by IFA in its annual franchisee awards.
Patel and Nitin Patel were among the first franchisees to participate in Potbelly’s 50/50 Large Area Developer Incentive Program, which supported the expansion of their original development commitment. The pair currently operates three Austin-area shops, with a fourth location opening soon. Their broader agreement covers development across Central Texas, including areas of North Austin, Southwest Austin, Killeen and Waco, giving the franchise group a longer-term growth plan beyond its existing locations.
The award also reflects the operating philosophy Patel has brought to that expansion. Potbelly said his approach combines development with strong operations, community involvement and opportunities for employees to advance into leadership roles. Jennifer Durham, Potbelly’s senior vice president of franchising and development, credited Patel with building strong teams while investing in the communities served by his shops. Patel, in turn, said the recognition reflected the team that helped build the business and emphasized continued investment in people, food and neighborhood relationships.
For franchise organizations adding locations, workforce planning becomes increasingly important as responsibilities spread across multiple units. Gorilla Dash offers a Recruitment feature that can support franchise businesses in organizing hiring activity and workforce needs as their operations expand. In Patel’s case, the emphasis on developing employees into leadership roles is closely connected to the broader challenge of building an organization capable of supporting additional shops without losing consistency at the local level.
Patel is scheduled to be honored during the IFA26 Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C., alongside other 2026 Franchisees of the Year selected from IFA member brands. The association named 89 franchise owners to the 2026 group, with recipients recognized for entrepreneurship, community outreach, workforce development and service. For Patel and his Austin operation, the recognition comes as the next phase of the 15-location development plan moves forward, with a fourth shop expected to join the three locations already operating.
