Firehouse Subs has opened its 1,400th restaurant in Clearwater, Florida, marking a milestone for the brand and a personal triumph for its newest franchisee, Colin Means. What makes this achievement particularly meaningful is that Means began his career with Firehouse Subs as a team member at just 21 years old. Over the years, his commitment to excellence and leadership propelled him through the ranks to general manager and, eventually, to franchise ownership during the height of the pandemic in 2020.
“Opening my own Firehouse Subs restaurant is an incredible honor,” Means said, reflecting on his journey from employee to entrepreneur. He credits his team and the strong corporate support network for helping him bring the beloved sandwich brand to the Clearwater community. His story stands as an example of how persistence and opportunity can intersect to create success, even during uncertain times.
Since its founding in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1994, Firehouse Subs has built a reputation for serving hearty, flavorful sandwiches while giving back to the communities it serves. Through the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, the company has donated more than $102 million in lifesaving equipment to first responders across North America. The Clearwater restaurant now joins that tradition, continuing the brand’s mission of combining great food with meaningful impact.
Mike Hancock, President of Firehouse Subs, described the Clearwater opening as a testament to the brand’s momentum and the dedication of its people. “Reaching our 1,400th restaurant is an exciting milestone that showcases the energy and commitment of our franchisees and team members,” Hancock said. He emphasized that milestones like this are made possible by franchisees who embody the company’s values of service, quality, and community engagement.
The new Firehouse Subs location is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. For Means and his team, it represents more than a business opportunity; it is a chance to serve their neighbors with food made from the heart while honoring the spirit of community that has always defined Firehouse Subs.
