This October, Chipotle Mexican Grill is serving up more than its signature burritos. The fast-casual chain has launched “Chip-or-Treat,” a month-long celebration of rewards designed to keep fans engaged throughout the Halloween season. From October 6 through October 30, members of Chipotle Rewards who purchase an entrée each week will unlock a surprise treat, ranging from free guacamole and chips to bonus points redeemable for future meals.
The promotion is a creative extension of Chipotle’s long-running Boorito tradition, which has been a Halloween favorite for 25 years. This year, the company is broadening the festivities by offering a new way for fans to enjoy the spirit of the season beyond a single night. According to Chipotle, 77 percent of adults say they miss the fun of trick-or-treating, a sentiment the brand hopes to tap into through its playful and nostalgic campaign.
Participation in Chip-or-Treat is simple. Members can make a qualifying purchase in store or through the Chipotle app, scan their Rewards card, and wait for a “Chip-or-Treat” email to arrive. Each message reveals a personalized freebie that can be redeemed within five days, allowing guests to earn up to four different treats throughout the month. The goal, according to the company, is to merge convenience with delight while keeping customers returning week after week.
Chris Brandt, Chipotle’s President and Chief Brand Officer, said the new promotion reflects the brand’s ongoing effort to connect with customers in fun and meaningful ways. “For 25 years, Boorito has been the can’t-miss Halloween tradition for our fans, and this year we’re making it a full month of treats,” he said. “We’re focused on real food made fresh every day, without any scary tricks.”
New members are also being welcomed into the festivities. Anyone joining Chipotle Rewards for the first time this October will receive a free guacamole offer after their first qualifying purchase. As the month culminates in the return of the Boorito event on Halloween night, Chipotle’s Chip-or-Treat promotion underscores the brand’s ability to blend marketing creativity with customer loyalty. For fans, it is a reminder that the best treats do not always come from a candy bag; sometimes they come wrapped in foil.
