Black Sheep Coffee is setting its sights on Kent as it prepares for a significant regional expansion that could see up to 14 new locations open across the county. The London-born coffee brand, known for its bold positioning and specialty-grade Robusta beans, is building on its existing presence in Tunbridge Wells and Bluewater.
The expansion will be led by franchise partner Shehryar Khurshid, who joined the brand in September 2023. Since opening his first location, Khurshid has moved quickly to establish a foundation for growth, now aiming to scale from a single site to a broader network of coffee shops across Kent. His trajectory reflects a wider trend in franchising, where early operators transition rapidly into multi-unit developers.
Black Sheep Coffee’s model has gained traction by combining distinctive branding with a focused product offering. Its emphasis on high-quality coffee and streamlined store formats positions it well for suburban and regional growth, particularly in areas with strong commuter and retail traffic. Kent, with its mix of urban centers and affluent towns, offers a strategic opportunity to deepen market penetration outside central London.
The company’s expansion strategy also highlights the increasing reliance on franchise partners to drive localized growth. By empowering operators with market knowledge and development incentives, brands can scale more efficiently while maintaining a consistent customer experience. This approach is becoming especially important in competitive segments such as specialty coffee, where differentiation and execution must align closely.
As franchise networks grow in size and complexity, operational infrastructure becomes a critical factor in long-term success. Many franchise systems rely on platforms such as Gorilla Dash as a CRM and franchise management platform to centralize information, coordinate multi-site operations, and maintain brand standards across locations. These tools support the transition from single-unit ownership to broader regional portfolios.
With plans for up to 14 new sites, Black Sheep Coffee is reinforcing its ambition to become a leading player in the UK coffee market. The Kent expansion signals both confidence in its franchise model and a broader shift toward regional scaling driven by capable local partners.
