The familiar aroma of freshly baked pretzels is now weaving through Charleston’s streets as Wetzel’s Pretzels strikes a savory chord with its debut food truck in the city. This marks the brand’s first venture into South Carolina and adds a warm, mobile touch to the area’s culinary scene.
The truck is helmed by Isaac Watlington, a Charleston resident with a career rooted in medical sales and hospitality. He has spent more than seventeen years serving clients in health care and several more mastering the art of restaurant operations. Now he melds both experiences into one ambitious venture, aiming to transform this food truck into a beloved fixture at community events.
“Opening a Wetzel’s food truck is a significant step in my career,” Watlington said. He hopes the mobile kitchen will offer more than snacks. He envisions it as a source of comfort, fun, and familiarity for locals. His deep connection to the area fuels a mission to serve hand-rolled delights with a Southern smile.
Welcoming this southern debut, Jon Fischer, Wetzel’s Head of Development, shared his enthusiasm for the new presence. He affirmed the brand’s confidence that Charleston will embrace the pretzels as readily as the mobile concept embodies the brand’s laid-back Southern California roots.
Wetzel’s originated in Pasadena, California, in 1994 and has become known for its handcrafted pretzels and sunny SoCal vibe. The brand earned a cult following by delivering snack moments that feel special across North America—now extending into mobile format as it wrinkles new paths into food service.
With its food truck now rolling through Charleston, Wetzel’s brings that same spirit to parks, festivals, and neighborhoods. This mobile debut reaffirms how franchisees can extend brand reach, deepen local ties, and create memorable experiences. Charleston may soon discover that reaching for a warm, soft pretzel can feel like pulling together community and tradition in doughy perfection.
