Port of Subs is making a bold entry into the Hampton Roads region of Virginia with a 20-unit franchise agreement led by Marine veteran and entrepreneur Dan Hudson. The move signals the brand’s first foray into the Southeastern U.S., with its inaugural Virginia location scheduled to open in early 2026.
Hudson, who has served as a Marine, Navy Diver, and Submarine Warfare Officer, brings a disciplined and mission-driven approach to his new role as franchisee. With a successful background in data science and executive leadership, he sees the partnership with Port of Subs as both a business venture and a personal journey. His deep connection to the brand dates back to his high school years in Reno, Nevada, where Port of Subs was a favorite lunchtime stop.
“It was more than just a sandwich—it was a highlight of my day,” said Hudson. “Now I want to bring that same excitement and quality to the communities here in Virginia.”
Dan’s wife, Becca Hudson, will be instrumental in establishing the brand’s local presence. While Dan focuses on operational execution, Becca will take the lead in community engagement and ensuring that the new locations resonate with local culture and values.
Port of Subs President Healey Mendicino praised the Hudsons’ commitment and shared vision. “Dan’s background and passion for our brand are exactly what we look for in franchise partners. We’re excited to see how this dynamic duo brings Port of Subs to life in Hampton Roads.”
Founded in 1972, Port of Subs has grown to more than 140 locations, primarily across the western United States. This new venture not only reflects the company’s strategic push toward the East Coast but also reinforces its confidence in veteran-led leadership and community-driven growth.
With the first Virginia store set to open its doors in 2026, the Hudsons are paving the way for a regional rollout that promises to introduce a new level of fast-casual excellence to the Tidewater area.
