In a notable expansion within the fast casual dining sector, veteran franchise operator Sam Patel has partnered with his sister, Phalguni Patel, to sign a three unit franchise agreement with The Red Chickz in Maryland. The deal marks a strategic move for the fast-growing hot chicken brand as it extends its footprint beyond its West Coast roots. For Patel, whose franchising career began in 2015 with Tropical Smoothie Cafe, the agreement reflects both experience and confidence in the category’s continued momentum.
Patel currently operates multiple franchise locations across Maryland and Indiana, including three in Maryland and ten in Indiana, with another location already in operation. His background spans several well-known brands, including 7 Eleven and WingStop, where he helped open locations alongside his brother. Over the years, Patel has built a reputation for operational discipline and a strong focus on customer experience, qualities that have guided his approach to multi-unit growth.
His interest in The Red Chickz began through social media, where the brand’s presence caught his attention. After visiting a California location, Patel said the experience confirmed his instincts. He described the menu as consistently memorable and the concept as having a distinct appeal that stood out in a crowded marketplace. That combination of strong digital visibility and in-store execution ultimately convinced him the brand was ready for expansion in new markets.
Phalguni Patel joins the venture as a full partner, bringing shared enthusiasm for food, hospitality, and entrepreneurship. Together, the siblings aim to create restaurants that emphasize bold flavors while fostering meaningful guest connections. Spencer Sabatasso, Vice President of Franchise Development for The Red Chickz, said the Patels exemplify the type of operators the brand seeks as it grows, citing their commitment to quality, culture, and long-term franchise community building.
