Sandbox VR has announced Age of Dinosaurs, an ambitious new virtual reality adventure developed in collaboration with the Natural History Museum London. Designed with input from leading paleontologist Dr. Darren Naish, the project blends entertainment and science in a way that promises to reshape family-friendly immersive experiences across Sandbox VR’s franchise network.
The game transports players into the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, where they can encounter dinosaurs rendered with scientific precision. Spanning fifteen locations, the scope of this release is more than double that of earlier Sandbox VR titles, offering unprecedented opportunities for exploration. Guests will be equipped with interactive multi-tools that allow them to study the environment, observe behavior, and experience the thrill of life in prehistoric ecosystems.
Early testing has already captivated young audiences. Children as young as six were immersed in the simulation, reacting with awe to lifelike dinosaurs and detailed landscapes. These responses highlight the project’s dual purpose: to entertain while igniting curiosity about Earth’s ancient history.
Steve Zhao, founder and CEO of Sandbox VR, said the goal was to combine wonder and learning in a way that leaves visitors inspired. “We are dedicated to sparking curiosity in future generations through immersive experiences that bring science and imagination together,” he explained.
The Natural History Museum’s role has been central to this vision. Maxine Lister, Head of Licensing, underscored that the institution’s scientific oversight ensured every detail, from the look of the dinosaurs to the surrounding flora, was based on research. Dr. Naish contributed his expertise to guarantee accuracy in anatomy and movement, making the creatures both believable and educational.
Michael Hampden, Vice President of Content at Sandbox VR, described the collaboration as a natural progression for the company. He noted that audiences are increasingly seeking experiences that are not only thrilling but also meaningful. “Our mission is to create content that resonates emotionally while remaining rooted in authenticity,” Hampden said, emphasizing how this balance strengthens both guest engagement and franchise value.
For franchise operators, Age of Dinosaurs represents a significant business opportunity. With more than sixty Sandbox VR locations worldwide preparing to host the adventure, the launch is expected to drive increased traffic and repeat visits. By integrating scientific authority with cutting-edge VR, the project demonstrates how immersive entertainment can evolve into a more holistic, culturally relevant experience.
