ohDEER, a fast-growing franchise specializing in eco-friendly deer, tick, and mosquito control, has officially expanded into Texas with the launch of its first location in Northwest Austin. The new branch is operated by Jef and Whitney Fair, a husband-and-wife team bringing extensive knowledge in sustainable practices and a deep appreciation for outdoor living to the Lone Star State.
Jef Fair’s career includes leadership roles at Orvis, where he worked as a software success manager and project coordinator, while also fostering an early passion for sustainability through work at an organic nursery. His multifaceted experience in retail, customer solutions, and nature-based living has positioned him well to lead this new venture. Whitney Fair complements the operation with strong community ties and shared environmental values.
Their decision to join ohDEER was inspired by a practical and pressing local challenge. As longtime residents in a deer-dense region of Austin, the couple recognized a lack of effective, natural options for homeowners trying to protect their landscapes. Drought conditions have made deer more aggressive in their search for food, often targeting gardens and lawns. According to Jef, “In Texas, deer will eat almost anything during a drought, and homeowners had not truly effective options to protect their landscapes.” ohDEER’s all-natural deterrent solutions offer a humane, effective answer to this issue, allowing families to enjoy their outdoor spaces without sacrificing aesthetics or safety.
Colleen Upham, co-founder of ohDEER, praised the Fairs for their enthusiasm and alignment with the brand's values. “Jef and Whitney are exactly the kind of passionate, values-driven leaders we look for in ohDEER partners,” she stated. Their background and commitment to environmentally conscious service make them ideal franchise owners as the brand ventures into new geographic territory.
The opening of ohDEER Northwest Austin reflects the franchise's broader mission: to help families enjoy their yards without harmful chemicals or disruption to local ecosystems. As the company continues to expand nationally, this Texas launch marks a significant milestone in its growth trajectory.
