Why a change is not showing yet

Websites are cached so that they load quickly. A cache is a saved copy of a page's content that can be handed to a visitor without Gorilla Dash having to build it again, so most visitors never wait for the content to be put together.

You do not normally need to clear the cache yourself. Whenever you save a change in Gorilla Dash — a page, a menu, a tribe's details, a product, a food menu, an article, a review or an image — the cache for your websites is cleared automatically, and the change normally appears within about a minute.

Choosing how long content is cached

Each website has an API cache duration, which controls how long a saved copy is kept before Gorilla Dash builds a fresh one. To change it:

  1. Open Websites and choose the website.
  2. Select Website Settings in the website's menu.
  3. In the Website Cache section, choose Short, Standard or Long under API cache duration.
  4. Select Save.

New websites use Standard, which suits almost everyone. Because saving a change clears the cache, a longer duration does not mean visitors see old content; it only means the website is served from the cache more often and loads faster. The table shows the longest time each kind of content is kept if nothing is changed in between.

WHAT IS NEVER KEPT FOR LONG
Booking and ordering times change when a customer books or orders, not when you edit anything, so they are only ever cached for a few seconds. A visitor's own login, cart and ordering portal are never cached.

Clearing the cache yourself

If your website runs on its own server and keeps a copy of its own, enter its address in Cache Clear URL in the same Website Cache section and tick Clear Website cache Automatically. Gorilla Dash then calls that address whenever your content changes, so the website's own copy is cleared at the same time. With the box unticked, the website's own copy is left alone and refreshes on its own schedule. Saving any change is also the quickest way to clear the cache on demand.

THE LAST ONE CATCHES EVERYONE
An edit made centrally will never appear on a page a tribe has customised. If one location is showing old content and the rest are fine, it is a local version, not a cache.
