Announcements to the network

download Download PDF

An announcement is a short message from a vendor that appears to users across the network as they work — a new product, a price change, a promotion, a training date.

It is shown sparingly, on purpose

A user sees an announcement at most once in a 24-hour period, across every tribe they work in. That is deliberate: an announcement panel that appeared on every screen would be dismissed without reading within a week.

Which means you get roughly one shot per person per day. Spend it on something they would care about.

What is worth announcing

Worth itNot worth it
A genuine offer with a deadline."Follow us on social media."
A product that solves a problem these tribes have.Company news that affects nobody outside your business.
A training session with a date and a link.A restatement of what your listing already says.
A supply or price change they need to plan around.Anything you posted last month.

Writing one

  • One idea. An announcement with three offers has none.
  • Say what it is and what to do about it in the first line.
  • Put a deadline on anything time-limited — it is the reason people act rather than close it.
MIND THE PUBLISH WINDOW
Announcements run between dates. One with a window that has passed is shown to nobody, and one with no end date is still being shown long after the offer expired — which does more damage than not posting at all.
