Tribe types

A tribe type says what kind of thing a tribe is — Retail Store, Sales Office, Franchise, Warehouse. A tribe can hold more than one type.

What a type actually does

  • It gives you a menu entry of its own, so you can jump straight to just those tribes.
  • It defines website fields — the content blocks every tribe of that type has on its web page.
  • It defines website menus for those pages.
  • It is how nearly everything else targets a subset of your network.

Targeting is the big one

Mailing lists, email campaigns, promotions, social posts, customer buckets and resource collections can all be aimed at particular tribe types. That is how you send something to your retail stores but not your offices.

LEAVING THE TYPE LIST EMPTY MEANS EVERY TRIBE
Across the product, "no tribe types selected" is treated as "all of them", not "none of them". A campaign you thought was unaimed goes to your entire network. Always set the types deliberately.

Website fields

Under Tribe Website Fields you define the blocks of content each tribe of this type will have — a hero heading, an about paragraph, an offer panel. Give each a name, a section such as Hero Banner, a default value and a hint.

Every tribe of that type then gets its own copy to fill in, starting from your defaults. Adding a field later pushes it out to the existing tribes automatically.

Never delete a type in use

DELETING A TRIBE TYPE DESTROYS EVERY TRIBE'S CONTENT FROM IT
Unlike deleting a tribe, this really is permanent. Every website content block that came from that type's fields is destroyed, across every tribe that had the type — copy your tribes spent time writing. The confirmation says only "This will be permanent" and gives no hint of the scale. If a type is obsolete, detach it from the tribes instead and leave the type alone.
SAVING A TYPE WITH NO MENUS DELETES ITS MENUS
The menus on a tribe type are replaced by whatever is on screen when you save. If they fail to load and you save anyway, they are removed. Check the menus are showing before you press Save.

Changing a tribe's type

Set it on the tribe's admin settings, or use Add Tribe Types and Remove Tribe Types from the tribe list to do many at once. Attaching a type creates that tribe's content blocks and re-checks which mailing lists it belongs to.
