Getting a sending number

download Download PDF

You cannot send anything without a number. In Communications settings, under SMS sender, there are two ways to get one.

OptionWhat it means
Gorilla Dash numberWe buy and manage a dedicated number for you. Rental and per-message usage are billed to your Gorilla Dash account.
Provider connectionYou connect your own Twilio account. Your account, your billing — Gorilla Dash charges you nothing for the messages.

A Gorilla Dash number

Press Get my Gorilla Dash number and confirm. Available in the United States, Australia and New Zealand. Australian and New Zealand numbers work straight away; United States numbers need carrier registration first.

YOUR NUMBER COUNTRY IS SET BY YOUR ORGANISATION, NOT BY THE TRIBE
Every managed number in an organisation comes from the organisation's own country. A tribe trading somewhere else still gets a number from the organisation's country. An organisation that genuinely needs numbers in two countries needs a second organisation.

Your own Twilio account

Connect with an Account SID and Auth Token, or an API key pair. You will also set the Phone Number and an Opt-out / compliance message, which is appended to every marketing message sent from the account. Use Verify to check the connection before you rely on it.

How tribes get a number

Under Send messages from you choose between:

  • The organisation account — shared by every tribe. Simplest, and the default.
  • Each tribe's own connected account — every tribe must set up its own number, and a tribe without one cannot send at all.

A tribe with its own number always uses it. The setting only decides what happens for tribes that do not have one.

"Phone Numbers" is not your numbers

THAT SCREEN LISTS YOUR CUSTOMERS' MOBILES
The Phone Numbers item in the SMS menu shows the mobile numbers of the people you hold — how many messages each has had, delivered and failed counts, consent history and block status. Your own sending numbers live in Communications settings. The naming catches everybody out once.

Giving a number up

Disconnecting a Gorilla Dash number releases it permanently — you cannot get the same number back. Rental billing stops after the current month.
