When your point of sale asks "how did you hear about us", the answer arrives in Gorilla Dash as a referral type. Until you map it, it means nothing to your reports.
How a sale gets credited
- If the customer already had a source in Gorilla Dash — they came from a form, a call or a promotion — that wins, and the sale is credited there.
- Otherwise, the referral type your point of sale recorded is used, according to your mapping.
- If there is neither, the sale is unattributed.
Mapping them
Under Sale Referral Types each one your systems have sent can be given an initial lead source and campaign, and marked as counting towards the graphs and as a digital marketing sale. Hide mapped types leaves just the ones still needing attention, and Auto-assign with AI proposes mappings for the obvious ones.
Default Referral Types is the master list seeded into new tribes, so a new tribe starts with your standard set rather than a blank screen.
Mapping does not fix history
Industries
The same pattern applies to industries, which drive the Sales by industry breakdown. Default Industry Types is the master list, and it shows how many people fall into each — useful for spotting one you have split in two by accident.
A new industry mapping takes a couple of nights to show in the breakdown, because the assignment and the rebuild happen on different schedules.
