Why one report shows nothing and another shows real money

download Download PDF

Gorilla Dash keeps two different sales totals, and the difference explains most of the confusing reports in this module.

TotalWhat it counts
Gross salesEvery sale, whether or not anybody knows what brought the customer in.
Attributed salesOnly the sales that can be credited to a marketing source. Where a report splits them out, the rest shows as Unattributed.

The problem this causes

A POS THAT DOES NOT ASK "HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT US" ATTRIBUTES NOTHING
Some point-of-sale systems — food ordering platforms especially — record no marketing source at all. Every one of their sales is therefore unattributed. Reports built on attributed sales look empty, while the headline figure shows the real trading. Nothing is broken; there is simply nothing to credit.

Which reports use which

Custom Dashboards — every sales widgetGross
Tribe groups ranked by salesGross

So a network on food platforms will see healthy figures on its custom dashboards and near-empty source and industry breakdowns. That combination is expected, not a fault.

Fixing it where you can

Attribution comes from two places, in order:

  1. The customer already had a source in Gorilla Dash — they came from a form, a call or a promotion. That always wins.
  2. Your point of sale recorded a referral type, and you have mapped it under Sale Referral Types.

If neither applies, the sale is unattributed. Mapping your referral types is the single most effective thing you can do to make these reports useful.

What unattributed is called

THE SAME THING HAS THREE DIFFERENT LABELS
On the organisation dashboard unattributed sales sit in a bucket called Other. On a tribe dashboard they are called Unattributed. And on both, a long tail of small sources is folded into Others — which is a different thing again. Read the labels carefully before concluding two reports disagree.

Historical months

Gross sales were added after some of your history was recorded. Where a month predates it, reports fall back to the attributed figure — so an old month can show a lower gross total than it should. This is not one of the nightly rebuilds; if it affects a period you report on, ask support.
