Creating an online store

Select Online Store in the left-hand menu, then Online Stores, then Create Online Store. The fields are described below in the order you meet them.

Naming it and giving it an address

FieldWhat to put in it
NameWhat the store is called. This is for you as much as for customers — it is how the store is identified everywhere else in Gorilla Dash.
SlugThe short text used in the store's web address. Use lower-case words separated by hyphens, and settle it before you launch: changing a slug afterwards breaks every link anybody has saved or printed.
DomainThe web address customers use. Leave it empty to run on the address Gorilla Dash provides, or set your own once the domain has been pointed at us.
Website TemplateThe design the store is built on. It sets the layout and the look; your own colours, logo and page content go on top of it.
StatusActive, Paused or Closed. Paused keeps the store unreachable while you build it; leave it on Paused until you have added products and tested a payment.

Tax

Store Tax Settings decide how tax is presented. Set the Store Tax Rate to the rate that applies where you sell. Get this right before the store opens: correcting a tax rate afterwards does not correct the orders already taken, and those are the ones your accountant will ask about.

Taking money

Under Payment Settings there is a single choice, Branded Store Payment Settings, set to either Disabled or Live Payment Mode. There is no provider picker here: which payment providers your organisation uses is set once on the Store Settings screen and applies to the store from there.

Live Payment Mode is the switch that starts charging real cards
With Live Payment Mode off, the store runs in test mode: orders can be placed and the whole flow can be checked, but no money moves. Leave it off until you have placed a test order, seen it arrive in Online Sales, and confirmed the confirmation email looks right. Test orders stay visible afterwards and are marked Test Mode in the sales list, so they are easy to tell apart.

Asking for more at checkout

Additional Fields let you collect something the standard checkout does not ask for — a purchase order number, an event date, a delivery instruction. Give each one a Field Name, choose Short Text or Long Text, and mark it Required if the order cannot be fulfilled without it.

Keep this list short. Every extra field is another thing standing between a customer and their payment, and anything you can work out for yourself afterwards is better asked for afterwards.

What to do next

  1. Add your product categories, so products have somewhere to sit.
  2. Add the products the store will sell, and price them.
  3. Build the menus and pages customers navigate with.
  4. Connect the tribes that will fulfil orders.
  5. Place a test order end to end while Live Payment Mode is still off.
  6. Set Branded Store Payment Settings to Live Payment Mode and the Status to Active, so the store is reachable and real cards are charged.
