When a product is sold by the unit — licences, mailboxes, tickets, shirts — each one is a seat. Seats are managed on the subscription, under Subscriptions, and every seat carries its own details: the email address the licence belongs to, the name on the shirt, the size.
This is the part of the Network Store that generates the most questions, because two things that sound the same are not: how many seats exist, and how many seats are charged for.
Included seats and billable seats
On an allowance-priced variant the bundle price covers a number of seats. Those are included. Seats beyond that number are billable, and each one adds the overage price to the bill.

The Register shows this per seat, so you can see exactly which seats are being charged for and which are riding on the allowance.
Adding a seat
Open the subscription and add the seat, filling in whatever the product asks for. A tribe can usually do this themselves from their own subscription screen.
The new seat works straight away. If it takes the subscription over its included allowance, the extra cost appears at the next renewal — seats added mid-cycle are not charged the moment they are created.
Removing a seat
Removing a seat stops it being counted from that point. As with adding, the effect on the bill lands at the next renewal, and there is no mid-cycle credit for the part of the period already paid for.
Removed seats are kept rather than erased, so you can still see who had what and when it ended.
The audit trail
Every seat change is recorded — added, updated, removed — with who did it and when. When a tribe queries a renewal amount, this is where the answer is: it shows exactly what changed between one renewal and the next.
Seat details
What is collected per seat is set on the product, and whether it is asked per seat or once for the order is set on the variant with Collect fields per unit.
Some details are deliberately locked after purchase. Where the answer is the thing being sold — the email address a licence is issued against — letting it be edited later would quietly move the licence to someone else.
