Gains and losses

download Download PDF

The Membership Gains & Losses card on the Recurring Revenue screen answers the question MRR alone cannot: is the number moving because you are winning members or losing them?

FigureMeaning
New RecurringRecurring memberships that started in the month.
MRR AddedWhat they are worth per month.
EndedRecurring memberships that stopped.
MRR LostWhat those were worth.
Net MRRAdded minus lost. The number that matters.
One-off EngagementsNon-recurring work started, counted separately.

Why it does not tie to MRR exactly

Gains and losses count memberships that started or ended in each month, including ones that have since finished or paused. The MRR figure above counts only what is billing today. The two will not always move by the same amount, and the screen says so.

End memberships, do not delete them

DELETED MEMBERSHIPS ARE INVISIBLE TO THIS REPORT
Deleted and Rejected memberships are excluded, so a customer who genuinely left but was deleted never shows as a loss. Your churn looks better than it is and you lose the ability to see why people leave. Always set an end date instead.

Using it

Watch net MRR month on month rather than any single figure. Growing gross additions with a growing loss column is a retention problem that more sales activity will not fix.
