Most franchise leads do not become franchisees. Recording why, every time, is what turns a lost deal into something useful: a source report that shows which channels produce candidates who cannot fund a unit, and a list of people to talk to again when a territory opens up.
Closing the deal
- Drag the card to Closed Lost (tick Show signed and lost to see the column), or click the Closed Lost chip on the deal page.
- Choose the lost reason. The list is set in Development Settings and starts with the reasons franchise sales are most often lost: unresponsive, not interested, financial qualification, financing unavailable, territory unavailable, chose another brand, timing, bad contact information, declined by committee.
- Add notes if there is more to say, then click Close as lost.
What changes
- The deal's status becomes lost, with the date and reason shown in its details.
- If this was the candidate's only open deal, their status becomes Lost. A signed franchisee's status does not change.
- The deal drops off the board unless Show signed and lost is on, and counts towards Lost, last 30 days.
If they come back
Move the lost deal back to an open stage — no gate applies — or open a new deal from their profile. Either way the candidate's status returns to Candidate and the history of the first attempt stays on the timeline.
WHY THE REASON IS REQUIRED
A lost deal without a reason is invisible to reporting. The reason is required so the answer to "why do we lose candidates from this portal" is on the record before anyone asks.
