Responses and matching them to contacts

download Download PDF

Responses are listed against the form. The valuable part is that they can be tied to the people in your database rather than sitting as anonymous answers.

Identity fields

A question can be marked as holding an identity — a first name, last name, email address or phone number. Marked answers are what match the response to a contact.

Matching is done on the email address. On a tribe's own form, matching stays inside that tribe — so a response is tied to their contact rather than to somebody else's with the same address.

Saving respondents as contacts

Save people who respond as contacts adds anybody new to your database. That turns a survey into a source of leads — and it is a decision to make deliberately, not a default to leave on.

TELL PEOPLE WHAT YOU WILL DO WITH IT
If answering a form adds somebody to your database, the form should say so. Collecting contact details under the impression it is an anonymous survey is both a trust problem and, in most countries, a legal one.

Reading the results

  • Read the free text first — it is where the useful surprises are.
  • Follow up the responses that are really complaints or enquiries, quickly.
  • Close the loop: tell people what changed. It is the cheapest goodwill available, and it makes the next survey work.
