An account with an owner gets worked. Set Assigned To on the company's Key Information card, or across a filtered selection with bulk update.
Company and contact ownership are separate
Assigning a company does not reassign the contacts who work there, and vice versa. That is deliberate — a large account can have several reps on different people — but it does mean the two can drift apart without anyone noticing.
THE SIMPLE RULE THAT AVOIDS THE MESS
Unless you genuinely run team selling, keep a company and its contacts with the same owner. Reassign both together and the question "whose account is this?" never comes up.
Sharing out a patch
- Filter the companies list to the set you are moving — by owner, by stage, by area.
- Tick them and bulk update Assigned To.
- Do the same on the contacts list for the people at those accounts.
- Give the new owner a task on the biggest few so the handover actually happens.
Unassigning
Leaving the field empty in a bulk update clears the owner rather than skipping the field — useful when a patch is being redrawn, and worth knowing before you do it by accident.
